If you're a fan of Paris and French food (and who isn't?!) then you might be interested in a new client of ours. The combination of Paris and food was irresistible to us and they have been a fantastic client to visit and work with!
La Cuisine Paris is a French cooking school in Paris offering a variety of cooking classes in English. Nestled on the bank of the Seine they offer numerous french cuisine classes, and food fours in Paris and Versailles.
We have redesigned and built their website to give a much improved booking and ecommerce system to both them and their customers. Click here to see more.
"It was not a difficult decision to choose Special Design Studio for the redesign and rebuild of our website, from the start, they set themselves apart as a team that would be an ongoing partner to us. Our project required care, thought and focus about our business and a thorough and seamless delivery - the entire team at Special Design Studio delivered on every occasion."
Jane Bertch, Owner La Cuisine.

Leiths Professional Prospectus, Cover
Brand new Leiths prospectus!
We used a bronze foil for the cover of the Leiths Professional Course Prospectus on a dark blue pantone special colour. The use of the copper is inspired by the copper pans that are widely used in their kitchens. The effect is eye-catching and makes you want to pick one up, just like the school's iconic polished pans! Click here to visit our Leiths Portfolio online.
“They are a triumph!”*
Jen Coles, Marketing Manager, Leiths School of Food & Wine
For the Oscar speech version of this see the bottom of this email!
Happiness is.....
... a happy client, and the only thing that tops that is our clients' clients being happy too!!
Last year we built a portal for Leiths Academy, who runs courses in schools all over the UK. The portal is a piece of software which enables the team to manage all aspects of the relationships with its partner schools. The schools use the portal to view the courses, download resources, set up visits, receive exam feedback etc. We provided full training and support directly to Leiths Academy clients. The system has been in action from September and Leiths is getting very positive feedback from its group of home economics teachers! So our client is happy, its clients are happy and we are too!
"I never thought I'd be saying this, but I have found the portal just great!"
Mrs J Bell, Westonbirt School, Gloucestershire
* Oscar speech version:
"Scott, I just wanted to say how hugely grateful we are that you’ve steered us through the challenge of finishing two large projects at the same time, which in total required 69 pages of design, creating two very beautiful pieces of work that we will be proud to give to our customers. Thank you for working with us as we requested many, many edits. We’re a small team and things change constantly, thank you so much for your patience. You’ve done us proud."

Christmas Message 2016
Happy Christmas and A Prosperous New Year!
As a design studio we feel that our Christmas message should be an exemplar. We should give it some proper thought and create something both clever and beautiful. However. After visiting the local barbers for a beard trim, Scott came across the best client to customer Christmas message probably ever created. Succinct and very ‘Christmassy’. So we thought we would simply reproduce it for you here, in our annual Happy Christmas email, as our thank you to you – for being a valued friend of Special Design Studio.
(We have to thank Gary at GTS male hair design for letting us take the photograph. Both Scott and Clive recommend him. For more information visit www.gt-s.co.uk)

The client

Eat Spain Drink Spain is a new initiative promoting the foods and drinks of Spain.
We created the ‘Eat Spain Drink Spain’ logo for the new initiative set up by the commercial arm of the Spanish embassy in order to promote the food and drink of Spain.
The logo uses a classic wine glass topped with a tapa, celebrating the iconic food and drink of the country.
The branding is being used to support the annual Spanish Wines Awards, and we have also designed the awards brochure which will be distributed across the country at tastings and events.
We are very pleased with the logo for 'Eat Spain Drink Spain', it perfectly embodies in a simple, stylish way the whole campaign

Leiths 40 years logo
Leiths School of Food and Wine celebrates 40 years in style!
By way of celebration Leiths are hosting a series of conversations with key players in the food industry; chefs, food writers, stylists and pioneers to reminisce about the last 40 years, discuss and even predict the next phase of the nation’s fascinating food journey.
Having designed a logo for the 40th birthday celebrations, they asked us to design and build a website to both promote the events and sell tickets. The solution was an elegant and simple one-page site (technically speaking it is a Craft CMS and Shopify integration). From conception to first ticket sale we had 48 hours but delivered with no problems!
If you are interested in food take a look at the first event, legends Pru Leith, Rick Stein and Yotam Ottolenghi are all speaking!

RSPB hyper-local marketing campaign/Special Design Studio
RSPB campaign to attract visitors to local reserves launched
We worked closely with the team at Eastern England RSPB to design a hyper-local community engagement programme. The purpose of the project is to increase people’s engagement with both wildlife and their local reserve.
Hyper-local is a key element in the project, this campaign is targeted at just two different postcodes with a piece of highly actionable direct mail given to each child in the catchment school of that postcode.
The postcard tells the family exactly how far they are from their local reserve and gives them free entry for the children. The idea is that they visit the reserve, learn about how to create homes for nature and then go home and put some of those things into practice and put the window sticker in the window.
Gradually postcodes will fill up with window stickers and the bug hotels etc in the gardens will start to create green corridors! In essence we want to mobilise people to extend their local reserve into their own garden, school or community space.

A new brand for a brilliant shared reading project
I loved taking part in the Writers' Centre Norwich 'Summer Reads' last year and had made a mental note to do it again this year, so I was delighted that Special were asked to rebrand the programme. The graphics, just like the programme are bold and exciting and ask the question, "Where will your next book take you?".
Click here to see more of the work.
I urge you to join thousands of other readers in a summer of shared reading - 6 books, 18 libraries, 65 events!
Melanie Kidd, Project Coordinator at WCN says:
“This year Brave New Reads is bigger than ever. We’re inviting readers across three counties to get involved in events at their local library. And anyone, anywhere can read the books and join the conversation online.  Last year people joined in from as far away as Australia!”

New branding for Jungle Communications
logo for jungle communications
After ten years in business Jungle felt that it was time for an identity refresh. They wanted the new identity to reflect a move away from a simple PR proposition to a fully integrated service offering. Their branding is simple and sophisticated whilst retaining a sense of humour.

NEW PROYECT OF SPECIAL DESIGN STUDIO

Special Design StudioGraphic and web design consultancy
new website homepage for the sainsbury centre for visual arts, norwich
New website launched for the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts
Designed and built by Special Design Studio, we are delighted that the newly launchedwebsite for the Sainsbury Centre delivers a much improved experience to both physical visitors to the centre and those who visit online. From ticket booking and visit planning, to a richer experience of objects and exhibitions with videos, resources and wall texts available online.
Our challenge was to create a structure which shows off the art works without being distracting in itself. We also wanted to create strong links to the unique architecture of the Centre. We have used a grid which is taken from the architectural design of the building (by architect Norman Foster), we have also echoed some of the physical wayfinding icons on the site.
Needless to say we are thrilled to be working with the Sainsbury Centre and think it is a great reflection on the health of the creative industries here in Norwich and for more on that subject read our blog!

Clarity for renowned sculptor Norman Dilworth
Since graduating from the Slade in 1956 Norman Dilworth has been producing sculptures and drawings which are now in collections at the Tate as well as Norwich's UEA and scattered all over Europe.
